Manufacturing note

A ball valve is a shut off valve that controls the flow of a liquid or gas by means of a rotary ball having a bore. By rotating the ball a quarter turn around its axis, the medium can flow through or is blocked. Ball valves are manufactured in one-piece, top entry, two-piece and three-piece bodies. A top entry body allows access to the ball and seats for maintenance without the need to remove the valve and is preferred for larger sizes. They can be characterized by a long service life and provide a reliable sealing over the life span, even when the valve is not in use for a long time. Where pressure drop is required, the user is advised to choose full port construction. When a Ball Valve is chosen to replace a Gate Valve, a Full Port Ball Valve is the obvious choice. As a result, they are more popular as a shut off valve then for example the gate valve. Ball valves are more resistant against contaminated media than most other types of valves. Ball valves are straight-through flow valves that give positive shutoff with the least amount of pressure drop and turbulence in the flow. The flow barrier is a ball that has been rotated 90 degrees in the direction of the flow. Ball valves are robust and typically provide a perfect shutoff.
